Nintendo’s latest financial report covers the first half of its fiscal year, from April through September 2026. The company reported 966 billion yen in net sales, down 12.1% year over year, while operating profit increased 49.1% to 216.5 billion yen. Ordinary profit was 300.6 billion yen, up 27.4%, and net profit reached 220.9 billion yen, an 11% increase.

By the end of the reporting period, Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales totaled 26.35 million units and software sales reached 73.21 million. During the first half alone, the console sold 6.49 million units, while Switch 2 software sales totaled 24.49 million. Nintendo said Star Fox sold 1.17 million units, Splatoon Raiders 2.42 million and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave 1.34 million. Mario Kart World and Pokémon Pokopia, released in the previous fiscal year, also sold well.

The original Nintendo Switch reached 157.20 million hardware sales and 1,593.87 million software sales. In the first half, hardware sales were 1.27 million units and software sales totaled 65.73 million. Nintendo reported sales of 8.81 million for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and 2.89 million for Rhythm Heaven Groove. The company also noted that Switch software can be played on Switch 2, supporting continued sales of older titles.

Digital sales for Nintendo’s dedicated game platforms rose 60.5% year over year to 249.6 billion yen, mainly because of higher sales of downloadable versions of packaged games. Revenue from mobile and IP-related business also increased 87.9% to 62.7 billion yen. Nintendo attributed that growth to strong audience engagement with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Nintendo said lower hardware unit sales contributed to the decline in overall revenue. However, operating profit benefited from steady software sales, which made up a larger share of total sales, and a first-quarter refund of U.S. IEEPA tariffs previously recorded as a cost of sales. Revenue outside Japan was 762.4 billion yen, or 78.9% of the total. Ordinary profit included 60.8 billion yen in income from equity-method investments and 26.7 billion yen in interest income.

The company left its fiscal-year financial forecast unchanged from the outlook published on May 8, 2026. Nintendo said it aims to broaden Switch 2’s installed base by promoting existing games and releasing new titles. It cited the October launch of Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition and upcoming games including Metroid Ravenous, scheduled for January. Nintendo also plans to continue supporting sales and engagement across the original Switch platform.
