Sega has released version 2.0.0 for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, bringing new modes and unlockable content alongside changes to Gadgets, machines, items and courses. The update is planned for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The headline addition is Duel Mode, which supports one-on-one races both offline and online. Offline Rival Duels pit players against CPU CrossOver racers, with rewards for victories and Bayonetta available to unlock through continued progress. Online Duel Matches let players race against opponents worldwide. A Friend Match option also supports two-player duels; on Switch and Switch 2, this can be played through Local Wireless. Best-of-10 competitions are listed as coming soon, with Duel Medals offered as rewards.
The update adds a seventh Gadget slot, called the Super Slot, which amplifies Gadget effects. Players must unlock the Grand Master Plate by racing at least 40 times to use it. The patch also introduces 15 Gadgets, including options that add a fourth Drift Charge level, adjust vehicle stats or provide boosts in specific situations. The new in-game Shop lets players spend Donpa Tickets and Duel Medals on items such as characters, horns, auras, decals, titles and Jukebox tracks. Some Gadgets previously offered as Festival rewards can also be bought with Donpa Tickets, subject to a Master Plate requirement.
Play Missions offer another way to earn Donpa Tickets and Duel Medals by completing objectives before their deadlines. They require an internet connection. World Match now includes Free Matches that do not affect a player’s rank, while matchmaking is set to pair players with Rivals of similar skill. Defeating those Rivals can award bonus Donpa Tickets.
Festivals will last 10 days instead of three. Rankings will be based on players’ longest win streaks: a second-place finish will no longer break a streak, though finishing third will. AI Rival teams can appear in Festival matches, and the update adds several crown rewards for achievements including winning streaks and beating a Rival in World Match.
The competitive changes include faster Ring respawns and adjustments to Ring-focused Gadgets. Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine receive lower top-speed bonuses, while Ring Evolution requires 15 Rings instead of 10 unless it is equipped in the Super Slot. Other changes adjust rewards from Perfect Charges and Ring-related abilities. Acceleration Type Machines recover from damage faster, and a maximum-speed bonus issue affecting Power Type Machines has been fixed.
The patch also reduces the pull that steers vehicles back toward their original path after collisions in online races. Machines boosting from Dash Panels or Dash Gates will no longer lose speed when hitting certain obstacles, and collisions while passing through Dash Rings cause less rebound. Several items have been adjusted, including Rocket Punch, Slicer, Drill, Laser and Warp Ring. Boost and Double Boost can now appear from Item Boxes while the other is being held.
Frenzy events can now occur on the second lap of Main Courses, except in Time Trial. The update also changes Ring and Item Box placements on several tracks, adds Double Item Boxes to selected courses and extends some Dash Panel placements to the third lap. CPU racers receive fewer Tap Boosts and more varied Gadget loadouts in World Match, Legend Competition and Festivals.
