Walmart is reportedly offering some customers $519.99 gift cards after cancelling their pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 Legend of Zelda edition. The cancellations came the day before launch and were attributed to the retailer having oversold the consoles.
An email shared by customers and confirmed by deal website CheapAssGamer.com apologizes for the cancelled orders and says Walmart will send an eGift Card by email within 10 business days. The message describes the cancellation as the retailer’s mistake.
According to Polygon, some affected customers have also been offered the option to reorder the Zelda-themed system. Other customer accounts suggest Walmart may be letting people choose between reordering the console and receiving a gift card matching its price.
The reported offer has prompted questions about whether the emails are genuine or were sent in error. Walmart’s reported approach appears to vary, and the available accounts do not confirm that every customer received the same options.
