Eiji Aonuma has explained that the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo-switch-2/">Nintendo Switch 2 could help shape the future of the franchise. Alongside revisiting the Nintendo 64 classic, the project is designed to provide a valuable learning opportunity for younger members of the development team.

According to Aonuma, rebuilding the game as a complete remake allows developers to examine its structure and the way the original was created. The knowledge gained through that process could lead to new ideas for future Zelda games.

Aonuma said that the possibility of applying those lessons to later projects was a key reason Nintendo decided that now was the right time to return to Ocarina of Time. He described the potential value of that outcome as extremely significant.

The remake is scheduled to launch on November 5, 2026. The game will arrive during The Legend of Zelda’s 40th-anniversary celebrations. A themed console and matching Pro Controller are planned for October 29, while two new amiibo are expected in 2027.

Amazon Spain has also restocked the physical edition at a price of €59.90.
