A report from Akihabara also highlights a limited-time collaboration between Nintendo and Japanese chocolatier Lotte.
Customers who purchase three eligible Lotte products can receive one of eight clear sleeves featuring artwork from popular entries in the series. The reporter spent around £40 on the Chocolate while collecting the designs, joking that obtaining all eight would require buying 24 boxes.
The campaign is part of a broader wave of Zelda marketing in the city. The report describes trailers playing on the Yamanote Line, audio from a Zelda Direct being broadcast outside the electronics retailer EDION, and dedicated Ocarina of Time sections at Yodobashi Akiba. Lawson stores have also been carrying Zelda merchandise, while one Akihabara location was decorated with Ocarina of Time artwork and 40th Anniversary goods.
The writer says the trip to Japan coincided unexpectedly with the game’s launch and describes seeing the series promoted throughout Akihabara. They also note that they could not find a midnight launch for Ocarina of Time in Tokyo.
