Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch on December 3, 2026. Atari, Nightdive Studios, and Eidos-Montreal announced the date along with details of the game’s digital and physical releases and a new trailer.
The standard digital edition will cost $30, while a $35 Digital Deluxe Edition will include an art book, the official soundtrack, and an excerpt from an upcoming novelization of Thief: The Dark Project.
Physical buyers will be able to choose between two editions. The $40 Steelbook Edition includes the game, a steelbook case, and a printed manual. The $70 Deluxe Trapezoid Edition adds the Remaster Diary and presents the contents in packaging inspired by the trapezoid-shaped big box used for the original 1998 release. All physical editions will also be playable on the original Nintendo Switch.
The remaster revives Looking Glass Studios’ stealth classic using Nightdive Studios’ KEX Engine. It includes Thief: The Dark Project, the additional missions and content from the 1999 Thief Gold release, and a new narrative campaign called The Tarnished Mirror.
Created by the team behind the fan-made expansion Thief: The Black Parade, The Tarnished Mirror is designed as a bridge between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age. The campaign introduces new factions, environments, and Lovecraftian horror while using the remaster’s technology and visual style. The project also represents a collaboration between Nightdive and Eidos-Montréal that brings a community-created work into the official canon.
The remaster will support player-created mods, including The Black Parade. In The Tarnished Mirror, a theft leads to imprisonment, uneasy alliances, and a journey into a drowned, R’lyeh-like necropolis, with expanded enemies and larger levels built around the series’ stealth gameplay and unsettling atmosphere.
