In just a few days, 11 Bit Studios and Fool's Theory will bring The Thaumaturge to the Nintendo Switch platform. According to a listing on the Nintendo eShop, the title is scheduled to drop on November 11, 2026. While the game first launched in 2024, this new release is strictly for the original Nintendo Switch hardware, though it will function on the Switch 2 through backwards compatibility.
Set in Warsaw during 1905, the character-driven RPG follows Wiktor Szulski, a thaumaturge and master of mystical arts. Wiktor possesses the ability to peer into the hearts and minds of others, uncovering their deepest emotions, desires, and secrets. However, these powers feed into his flaw of pride, which can present various opportunities or lead to negative consequences throughout the narrative.
Players will utilize Wiktor's unique abilities to solve detective investigations, navigate social circles as a savvy socialite, or deal with the criminal underground. The gameplay encourages exploring the world through Wiktor's perception to seek personal secrets hidden in objects, offering different perspectives on events that may seem obvious at first glance. As a thaumaturge, players draw power from the ability to summon salutors, mystical demons inspired by folklore that inhabit the ethereal realm.
These summoned creatures allow players to manipulate foes, sway the minds of allies, and engage in turn-based tactical combat against various opponents, some physical and others more elusive. Wiktor's thaumaturgical abilities enable him to bend the rules of reality, summoning demons to unleash powerful attacks or gain strategic advantages during these encounters.
The game features a rich gallery of characters within the multicultural metropolis of early 20th-century Warsaw. Players will encounter historical figures such as the monk Rasputin and Tsar Nicholas II. The story also introduces characters connected to Wiktor's troubled past, including his well-versed sister Ligia and Abaurcy, a childhood friend who turned to a life of crime.
The standard price for the game is set at $34.99, though pre-orders include a 30 percent discount. This announcement follows recent news that 11 Bit Studios has also published Frostpunk on the Nintendo Switch.
