Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, told IGN that Square Enix is open to creating films or television series set in the Final Fantasy universe. He described such projects as a possibility for the future, but said no adaptation is currently underway and no stories or formats have been announced.
Kitase said the company is more likely to invest in new games. However, he added that Square Enix may revisit older works when developers have a strong creative interest in them. He pointed to the Final Fantasy VII remake project, which brought together creators from the original game and aimed to introduce its appeal to both new players and returning fans.
The comments come as Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third game in the remake series, is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8, 2027.
