Fender and The Pokémon Company have officially announced a special collaboration commemorating the 30th anniversary of the original Game Boy games, Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Green Version. This partnership introduces two limited-edition electric guitars manufactured in Japan, each designed to pay homage to the classic 1996 titles.
The first instrument is the Made in Japan Pokémon "Red Version" Stratocaster. It features a red finish, exclusive custom pickups, and decorative designs incorporating pixel art illustrations and references to the original game. The second model is the Made in Japan Pokémon "Green Version" Telecaster, which boasts a green finish and a pickguard with fluorescent effects that react to light. Its design includes retro motifs inspired by the original Japanese edition of the game.
A defining feature of both guitars is the integrated "8-Bit Sound System." By pressing the volume knob, players can activate a circuit that blends the guitar's analog sound with synthesized 8-bit tones, recreating the music and sound effects of the original Game Boy. Additionally, both instruments include backplates engraved with the 30th-anniversary logo.
Each guitar comes packaged with several exclusive accessories, including a themed hard case, an illustrated certificate of authenticity, and a special tin containing 11 guitar picks. Ten of these picks feature pixel art illustrations of Pokémon, while the eleventh displays the anniversary logo.
These collectible instruments will be sold exclusively through an online lottery on the official Pokémon Center Online Japan website. The registration period for the lottery is scheduled to run from November 19 to November 24, 2026.
